Gustavo J. Armendariz, Jr., M.D. is an associate physician and senior member of The Orthopedic Clinic Association. He is a sports medicine specialist who works closely with the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers, as well as other professional, collegiate and high school teams. His sports medicine work has been largely centered on being a fellowship-trained foot & ankle specialist. He was the first such specialist in the community.
Dr. Armendariz’s practice is not limited to sports medicine, but includes a full complement of reconstructive procedures of the lower extremity including ankle & knee replacement surgery. He has also been continuously involved with Trauma Call at major Level 1 centers in the Valley. This aspect of his practice has him treating a wide variety of limb fractures including the most complex injuries.
Born in the United States citizen to immigrant parents, the family relocated to Mexico when he was two years old. At the age of seven they came to Arizona. His strong ties to extended family south of the border have allowed Dr. Armendariz to remain fluently bilingual and bi-cultural. He is immensely proud of this aspect of his life and incorporates it into his practice by serving Hispanics in our community.
